PADI Open Water
The adventure begins here...
... with the most popular diving course in the world!
As a certified PADI Open Water Diver, the most widely recognized and respected rating in the world, you have the freedom to dive with a buddy independent of a professional. If you already tried a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience or are PADI Scuba Diver certified, check with us to see how credit from these courses may apply to the open water program.
Here you'll learn real skills for real diving. It's the first level of PADI scuba certification and includes the basics of enjoyable, safe diving taught through academic training and confined and open water practice sessions, all under the guidance of a PADI Instructor. There are no fixed course dates as a flexible schedule system is in operation, meaning the dates are arranged to suit individual customers. The course generally takes place over 5 weeks, with two pool sessions and one weekend diving in the Open Water. Groups are kept small (maximum 3 unless requested otherwise) with a 1:1 Divemaster to student ratio in the open water.
The course is designed to be stress free and fun but students are always aware of the safety aspects of learning to dive. There is a referral option for those who wish to dive in warmer waters but do not wish to waste their holiday time.
The course price provides all materials and equipment required to learn to dive. The student is required to pay only for their dive site entrance fee at the time of the open water dives (normally around £8.00 per day).
What do I need to start?
Virtually anyone who is in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water can earn a PADI Open Water Diver certification. You must be older than the age of 14 to begin the PADI Open Water Diver program. For those of you who are not above the age of 14 and would like to participate in the PADI Open Water Diver Program, then the PADI Junior Open Water Diver program is available to you. If you are between 10 and 14 or have a child between these ages, there is a PADI Junior Open Water Diver program available.
A PADI Junior Open Water Diver between the ages of 10 and 11 years may only dive with a PADI Professional, a certified parent or certified guardian to a maximum depth of 12 metres/40 feet.
What will I do?
Choosing your Instructor is a very important part of your course. Don't be afraid to ask to be shown their qualifications and check whether they are currently authorised to teach (PADI Instructors have to renew their membership annually to be authorised to teach PADI courses as well as having to carry full insrance.). Also, PADI have a number of different professional teaching qualifications relating to their experience and training. These range from DM (DiveMaster), AI (Assitant Instructor), OWSI (Open Water Scuba Instructor), MSDT (Master Scuba Diver Trainer), IDCS (IDC Staff Instrcutor), to the highest Instructor rating possible in the UK through PADI - MI (Master Instructor). We have both male and female instructors and instructors of all ages.
The scuba diving equipment that you learn to dive with is also an important consideration when choosing somewhere to take your PADI Open Water Course. We believe that you should not be expected to put up with budget equipment just because you are new to the sport. All the Apeks and Cressi regulators in our school are cold water rated. Another consideration is your availability to a choice of exposure suit. We would recommend that you insist on learning to dive using a drysuit if you want to continue to dive all year 'round in the UK. Our equipment is replaced annually and you will find it in 'as new' condition when you take your course.
Our courses are fully comprehensive and include all of the following: PADI Open Water Crew Pack Ultimate Edition which is yours to keep when you complete the course, use of all equipment for both pool sessions and Open Water dives (including drysuit training not always included by most dive centres), pool fees, classroom fees, exams, Open Water dives and air.
How long will it take?
Throughout the course, you’ll learn fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and techniques. You earn this rating by completing five pool dives over two session each lasting two hours, completing five knowledge development sections, and by making four open water (ocean or lake) dives.
What will I need?
PADI Ultimate Open Water Crew-Pak including the PADI Open Water DVD. These are included in the course costs.
